A Work in Progress

Design for Ancient Egyptian Hedjet Crown - The White Crown

I know...what?  Two posts in two days?  As you may be able to tell I have been feeling rather creative lately and just want to share with you part of the artistic journey I have had and am currently undergoing.

Working on The Diments was all kinds of a blessing for me in many ways.  Not only did it help me with a lot of post-stroke rehabilitation, both cognitive and physical, it also helped me rediscover my love of the physical act of making props, not just designing them.

Here is a sketch of what I am working on at the moment.  I've long been fascinated by the elaborate crowns worn by royalty in Ancient Egypt and so now have decided to make a few, starting with the White Crown or Hedjet Crown of Upper Egypt.  I'm also making a less demanding royal diadem as a bit of a distraction.  Photos will follow once the projects are complete.

An Update

Norse Shield Design

Norse Sword Design - NothungNorse Spear Design - Gugnir

It's been quiet around here for far too long, I know.  Here is a quick post to show you that I haven't slipped of the edge of the earth nor entered another realm, I have just been busy getting better, doing my rehab and most important of all, creating.

Here are a few of the objects I have made over the past couple of months, given my newly rediscovered love of prop making.  These have been invaluable lessons in my post-stroke rehabilitation.

As you can see I've spent some time making some of the props I designed a few years back for my Nibelungenlied Project, a work still in progress and one I return to regularly.

I'll post some pics of the Wagnerian Headdress I recently made, very soon.  In the meantime I am updating my website with my newest work so check back regularly for updates.

All the very best of the Festive Season to you!

The Diments

With Opening Night done and dusted and the season in full swing (only 2 performances left) I wanted to share two of my favourite designs I did for The Diments.  As we progressed the designs morphed from these into something more gothic and less steampunk. Nevertheless these originals still have a lot of merit.

With a standing ovation received for both opening night and the second performance I can safely say that all of our hard work has paid off.

If you're in Perth and want to support this incredible, unique venture there are still a few tickets left but grab them while you can as Opening Night was sold out and last night close to capacity.
