Tonight: Opera In The Park - Rigoletto

The first event in the 2013 season for WA Opera takes place this evening with Verdi's Rigoletto in their popular annual Opera In The Park series.

WA Opera LogoAs usual they have assembled a strong cast that are local audience favourites: James Clayton, Rosario La Spina, Katja Webb and Fiona Campbell in conjunction with the WA Opera Chorus and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.  The conductor is Brian Castles-Onion.

It's a free event and like I said popular, so head down early to the Supreme Court Gardens for a good vantage point.

This marks the beginning of festival season for me, and a great way to ease in to the ensuing schedule of excellent performances I've tickets for over the coming weeks, more about these later.  I'll post a review in a day or so.

Here is the Quartet from Act 4 sung by Dame Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Isola Jones as a very busty Maddalena and Leo Nucci as Rigoletto.  No one quite does the Quartet like Sutherland and Pavarotti, just listen to them soar.
