Vale Spas Wenkoff (Sept. 23, 1928 - Aug. 12, 2013)

Once again the Pantheon of Great Opera Singers has another to join it's ranks, the great Heldentenor, Spas Wenkoff passed away yesterday, aged 84.  For slightly more information head here.

Best known for his portrayal of the incredibly difficult role of Tannhauser I thought it fitting to celebrate his career with his most famous filmed performance.  This is Tannhauser sung with a most secure and seductive voice, certainly one of the better exponents of the role in the latter part of the Twentieth Century, partnered here with the most incredible Venus of Gwyneth Jones.  This recording will certainly be his legacy.

Goodbye Mr Wenkoff and thank you.
