Image of the Day

Ella Ferris Pell - Salome, 1890

On what must be the first real day of spring so far this season in my little part of the world I've been drawn to (as usual) Salome and the endless array of imagery she has inspired.  I rather like this image by Pell.  It's full of petulant expectation.

Have a listen to this rarity below.  It's of Maria Cebatori in the final scene of Salome.  From this excerpt you get the real understanding of why she was considered a true rival to Welitsch in the role during the 40's.  It's truly fabulous apart from the strangest ending I have ever heard..  Enjoy your Sunday.
